Evan Ellis - China-Latin America Space Engagement: An Overview
Dear Colleague,
With this email, I am proud to share with you my new work on engagement by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) with Latin America and the Caribbean, in the Space sector.
This work is designed to be a brief, readable overview of the activities of the PRC in the region, with respect to the development and launch of satellites, the training of space personnel, the construction and technical outfitting (and potential access to) associated ground control facilities, space-oriented collaboration and data sharing, and the building and operation of Chinese space radars, telescopes and other stratgic space facilities in the Western Hemisphere.
This work provides a technically accessible description of the expanding array of PRC projects in this area, with both anti-US populist regimes and other governments in Latin America, with a focus on the strategic implications for the region and from the U.S.
This work is available here for download:
It is also available from The Diplomat, which published it (in English):

Stay tuned to this Substack newsletter, for the translation and re-publication of this work in Spanish and Portuguese, next week, by the journal Dialogo.
Podcast and Radio Shows:
As always, I would also like to share with you the links to my latest podcasts.
These include my show with U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute colleague Dr. John Deni, on the outlook for the region in 2024, with an emphasis on the impact from the broader global environment, and the possible activities of extra-hemispheric actors such as the PRC, Russia, and Iran in the region:

They also include my latest segments on the John Batchelor Show, in his special ongoing series on Latin America, The New World Report. You may find these weekly podcasts, which we have been doing regularly for well over a year now, as a useful analysis of key events in the region.
