Evan Ellis - China's Advance in Mexico Under Claudia Sheinbaum
Dear Colleague:
I am proud to share with you my latest article on China’s advance in Mexico under Claudia Sheinbaum, based on my research, and 12 days of interviews in Mexico City on the topic with Mexican experts.
The work finds that, President Sheinbaum has sought to limit high-profile PRC activities in Mexico, particularly in the security sector—likely motivated in part by her work manage with caution Mexico’s relationship with the U.S.
Due to recent uncertainties over the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-China relationship, China has also been moving cautiously with respect to both diplomatic engagement and some investment projects on its side.
Nonetheless, in key sectors including telecommunications, cloud computing, security systems, ride sharing, transportation and retail projects, and even some space and military activities, the PRC-Mexico relationship continues to advance.
