Evan Ellis - Colombia’s Security Challenges, the Government Response, and the Future of U.S.-Colombia Relations
Dear Colleague,
With this email, I would like to share with you my new in-depth work on Colombia’s security challenges under the new administration of Gustavo Petro, as well as the defense and security policies of the Petro government in response to those challenges, and the political dynamics of the new administration. This work also includes an analysis of the implications for the U.S. and the region.
My new work is based on interviews with a broad range of US and Colombian scholars, businesspersons, and government officials during the September-October 2022 period, including 10-days of in-person research in Bogota and Medellin, as well as supporting documentary and internet research.
Although the situation in Colombia has evolved somewhat since this article was originally delivered to the publisher in October 2022, I believe you will find that the broad and in-depth panorama that this work provides regarding the political and security dynamics in Colombia, and Colombia’s relationship with the US, continues to be valid and useful for scholars and policymakers.
The work, just published by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is available here for download:
