Dear Colleague,
With this email, I’m proud to share my new work, comparing patterns in PRC engagement in Africa, with that in Latin America and the Caribbean. The work is based on my preparation for, and presentation of research to a superb conference on the topic, just held by the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy at Florida International University.
The work highlights both significant similarities in PRC approaches to political, commercial, security sector, and other activities across the region, as well as important differences. Both highlight the value of a comparative approach for insights into the behavior of the PRC, its companies and entities. It suggests how examining PRC activities in one region provides insight into what to expect in others, as well as "best practices” for local governmental and commercial partners, and for the US government in preparing, engaging, and responding.
