Evan Ellis - Security Challenges Facing the Dominican Republic and the Government Response
Dear Colleague,
With this email, I would like to share with you my new work “Security Challenges Facing the Dominican Republic and the Government Response.” It was just published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese by the Strategic Studies Institute of the Peruvian Army (CEEEP). My thanks to their always professional, responsive, and first-rate team for their work with the translation and publication of this work.
This study focuses on the serious and evolving set of security challenges facing the Dominican Republic, from evolving patterns of narcotrafficking and other organized crime, to hurricanes and tropical storms associated with climate change, to migratory and other difficulties, particularly those tied to the deterioration of the security situation in neighboring Haiti.
The study also discusses work by the Dominican government to respond to those challenges, with an emphasis on work with the United States, as its economic and security partner. The contents of this work come from interviews and interactions with security and defense professionals during my recent visit to the Dominican Republic by the distinguished Santo Domingo-based “Global Foundation for Development and Democracy” (FUNGLODE), in order to present on regional security challenges.
