Evan Ellis testimony to the Senate Western Hemisphere Subcommittee: China in Latin America
Dear Colleague:
Although I recently wrote regarding another work, I am sending this email now to share with you my extended written testimony to the US Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues. The Subcommittee hearing, and my testimony, focus on PRC activities in Latin America and the Caribbean, and associated implications for the US and the region.
My testimony, in PDF format, is included here:
It is also available for download from the Senate Western Hemisphere Subcommittee website:

Furthermore, the video transcript of the full committee hearing can be accessed from this site (my opening statement appears 1:51:35 into the hearing):

For those of you interested in deeper information about this subject, I would also refer you to my new (just published) book, China Engages Latin America: Distorting Development and Democracy? (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2022):

If you find these occasional emails of use, please feel free to share with a friend or colleague or join my (always free) distribution list.
As always, thank you for the opportunity to engage with you through this means.
