Evan Ellis - The Struggle for the Soul of Latin America's Left
Dear Colleague:
With this email, I’m proud to share my newest article, just published by the Center for a Secure Free Society. It argues that the struggle between democratic elements and authoritarian populist elements of the increasingly dominant but diverse Latin American left will define the future of the region, with significant implications for the US.
The article is available here in PDF form for download (a somewhat large file):
It is also available at the website of the Center for a Secure Free Society, which published it:

I would also like to acknowledge the remarkable continuing struggle of the Ukranian people for their country against Russia’s aggression, and particularly those bravely and tragically making the ultimate sacrifice in Mariupol. Ukraine shows us that, when we follow the PRC and Russian argument that “no one can say what is democracy, what are human rights, what is right and wrong” we end up in a Hobbesian world where those with the most might and the most ruthlessness impose their will on the rest. Ukraine reminds us that “Who are you to say it’s wrong?” has always been the refrain of predators seeking to disarm those who would stop them from taking what they want.
